Maximum power and smoothness of operation with minimal consumption.

The diesel engines for the E-Class Cabriolet combine qualities that were previously considered incompatible: maximum pulling power and smooth operation. At the same time, fuel consumption has never been so low – thanks to innovative technologies from the Mercedes-Benz stable of measures, including BlueEFFICIENCY and the standard-specification ECO start/stop function.

An exceptional result in terms of agility, smoothness of operation, and consumption and emission figures has been achieved by the Mercedes-Benz engineers with the new-concept 4-cylinder diesel powerplant with two output levels. The engines are significantly more powerful, but at the same time more frugal and cleaner than their comparable predecessors. For each model technologies from the BlueEFFICIENCY package of measures were put together to achieve the greatest possible environmental compatibility in each case.

You can choose between the following models: E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY:

  • Up to 23 percent less fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared with predecessor models: BlueEFFICIENCY technology for every model.
  • Performance increased by 20 percent, 25 percent higher torque: thanks to the use of the further enhanced common-rail injection systems with up to 2000 bar of injection pressure, highly precise piezo injectors which allow for a particularly fast and fine metering of the quantity of fuel injected, plus a new turbocharging design.
  • Motivates to save on energy: the ECO display in the instrument cluster gives information on the driver’s manner of driving, thereby motivating the driver to modify his driving style so as to reduce fuel consumption.
  • Improved cold-running behaviour: newly-developed ceramic fast glow plugs.
  • Comfort as standard: two Lanchester balancer shafts working to counteract vibrations ensure a smoother ride and a very high level of ride comfort.
6-cylinder diesel engines

The smooth running characteristics are impressive, as are the low consumption and emission figures for the 6-cylinder diesel engine for the E-Class Cabriolet. This is thanks in part to the quick and precise piezo injectors, the high injection pressure and the consistently lightweight construction.

The E-Class Cabriolet is available with a performance and consumption-optimised 6-cylinder diesel engine as the E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY:

  • Ready to sprint: the maximum torque of 620 newton metres is available even at an engine speed range of between 1600 and 2400 rpm.
  • Protects the environment: the engine meets the requirements of the Euro 5 emissions class. A particulate filter also reduces particulate emissions.
  • Motivates to save on energy: the ECO display in the instrument cluster gives information on the efficiency of the driver’s manner of driving, thereby motivating the driver to modify his driving style so as to reduce fuel consumption.
  • Precise response: piezo injectors allow for finely metered fuel injection.
